Program
The 3rd China Forum
November 24-25, 2016 One Belt, One Road - New Opportunities and Challenges.
On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Austria and China, the Confucius Institute Graz hosted the 3rd China Forum. This forum was dedicated to the opportunities and challenges of the New Silk Road, which represents a successful further development of the opening policy and a win-win situation for bilateral relations.
The main focus of this high-level international meeting of science, business and culture was to intensify the cooperation between China and Europe, especially Styria (Austria), which has the highest research and development rate in Austria with 4.85%, ranking second in Europe. This 3rd China Forum provided a comprehensive platform of experts, entrepreneurs and know-how carriers and a valuable network for long-term cooperation.
During the ceremonial opening by the President of the Provincial Parliament Dr. Bettina Vollath, Mayor of the City of Graz Mag. Siegfried Nagl, Vice President of the Federal Council Mag. Ernst Gödl, Rector of the University of Graz Prof. Dr. Christa Neuper and GD of Raiffeisenlandesbank Steiermark MMag Martin Schaller in the Raiffeisen hall of the RLB in Raaba in the presence of the ambassador of the PR China, H.E. Li Xiaosi and other high-ranking embassy representatives, two further agreements on close cooperation between the University of Jiangsu and the University of Graz on the one hand, and the Geriatric Health Centers of the City of Graz on the other hand, were signed.
The 2nd China Forum
The second China Forum followed on November 9, 2012, and continued the concept of exchange between East and West. Thus, discussion forums on literature, culture, economics and law would be presented to a broad audience. Up for discussion were questions such as: What makes China specific? What conditions are particularly required to understand China's cultural and economic transformation?
The comparison between China and the West is understood as a consistent principle of the China Forum and is reflected in the plenary lectures, which in 2012 were as follows:
- Richard TRAPPL: Chinese Poetry after the Cultural Revolution.
- XU Kuanhua: Cultural Change in Contemporary China
- Michael FUNKE: Speculative bubble formation in the Chinese real estate market?
- Björn AHL: Modern Courthouses in China - Legal Reforms, Public Sphere and the Indigenization of Spaces and Symbols of Law
